DL-Propargylglycine (hydrochloride) is an irreversible inhibitor of cystathionine-γ-lyase (CSE), which is a H2S synthesizing enzyme. Studies show that DL-Propargylglycine (hydrochloride) effects glycogenolysis in rat hepatocytes. This acetylenic amino acid can also inhibit alanine aminotransferase in hepatocytes and to a lesser extent inhibits aspartate aminotransferase. Alternate studies on Lemna paucicostata Hegelm show that DL-Propargylglycine (hydrochloride) inhibits methionine biosynthesis, causes growth inhibition, and morphological changes.
