6-Deoxy-L-talose is a sugar which is found in the cell wall of several microorganisms. Studies indicate that 6-Deoxy-L-talose was first isolated from polysaccharides in the cell wall of Actinomyces bovis. In addition, 6-Deoxy-L-talose is a component of an antigenic heteroglycan from Streptococcus bovis. Furthermore, this aldohexose sugar is C-2 epimer of galactose. The active sugar form of this compound is dTDP-6-deoxy-L-talose.
