N-Acetyl-Asp-Glu-OH is an endogenous neurotransmitter with high affinity for the brain glutamate receptor. N-acetylated α-linked acidic dipeptidase (NAALADase), a membrane-bound peptidase, hydrolyzes α-NAAG, a major brain peptide, to N-acetylaspartate and glutamate. Discriminates between mGluR-2 and mGluR-3. N-Acetyl-Asp-Glu-OH is an mGluR3 activator and an weak activator of NMDA receptor.
