Derquantel is an anthelmintic spiroindole that acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist, causing flaccid paralysis and expulsion of nematodes. A combination of derquantel and the macrocyclic lactone, abamectin , has been found to have synergistic anthelmintic effects against gastrointestinal nematode parasites in sheep.
