γ-Tocotrienol is found in high concentrations in palm oil and rice bran and recent studies have shown that tocotrienols may be more effective antioxidants than α-tocopherol, the most abundant form of vitamin E.2 Spontaneously hypertensive rats fed a diet which includes γ-tocotrienol show significant reduction of systolic blood pressure and an increase of nitric oxide synthase activity in blood vessels. γ-Tocotrienol at 20μM induces apoptosis of malignant sympathoadrenal (+SA) murine mammary epithelial cells.
