9,10-Dihydrophenanthrene is a useful synthetic intermediate. 9,10-Dihydrophenanthrene is used to prepare its derivates such as 9-aryl-9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes. 9,10-Dihydrophenanthrene is also one of the best H-donor solvents among the hydroaromatic solvents for hydroliquefaction of coal.
