Use：: Lamivudine is the (–) enantiomer of a cytidine analogue with sulfur substituted for the 3'carbon atom in the furanose ring [(–) 2',3'-dideoxy, 3'-thiacytidine]. It has significant activity in vitro against both HIV-1 and HIV-2 as well as HBV. Lamivudine is phosphorylated to the triphosphate metabolite by cellular kinases. The triphosphate derivative is a competitive inhibitor of the viral reverse transcriptase.
