Carbomer 940, also known as carbopol 940, is a white powder that is a high molecular polymer cross-linked by acrylic acid and allyl sucrose ether or allyl pentaerythritol ether. It has a glass transition temperature of 100-105°C and is soluble in water, ethanol, and glycerin. The molecule's weakly acidic nature contains 56% to 68% carboxyl groups, and the pH of 0.5% aqueous dispersion is 2.7 to 3.5. After neutralization, the ionized carboxyl group causes molecular chain dispersion and stretching, showing a significant expansion state that is viscous. The neutralized gel is not sensitive to UV radiation, unaffected by temperature, and resistant to the growth of bacteria and mold. Carbomer 940 has excellent thickening, suspending, and emulsifying effects and is widely used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
용도
Carbomer 940 is a widely used ingredient in pharmaceutical production, serving as a versatile thickener, emulsifier, suspending agent, binder, and skeleton material for controlled-release preparations. This innovative pharmaceutical excipient is suitable for use in liquid preparations, semi-solid preparations, and solid dosage forms.

Safety
In acute oral studies with rats, guinea pigs, mice, and dogs, it was found that ingesting carbomers 910, -934, -940, and -941 resulted in low toxicities. Additionally, long-term repeated treatment with rh-aFGF carbomer 940 hydrogel did not cause any noticeable toxicity to target organs or tissues in a New Zealand white rabbit skin damage model.
