Ethopropazine is a derivative of phenothiazine with expressed anticholinergic activity. It effectively reduces muscle rigidity and general stiffness, including tremors. It is used in Parkinsonism as well as in other situations of extrapyramidal disorders, including situations caused by
phenothiazine drugs.
Synthesis
Ethopropazine, 10-(2-diethylaminopropyl) phenothiazine (10.2.7), is
synthesized by alkylation of phenothiazine using 1-diethylamino-2-propylchloride in the
presence of sodium amide [39,40].
