Strontium silicate can be prepared by calcining the
oxide with silica, SiO2, at an elevated temperature:
SrO + SiO2 + hea?SrSiO3
The metasilicate composition results. Three forms of
strontium silicate are known: SrSiO3 (monoclinic), the
ortho-salt, Sr2SiO4 (monoclinic) and the phyllo-salt,
Sr3SiO5 (tetragonal) that has a layered structure.
