Uses
Hexane mixed isomers is used in the laboratory to extract oil and grease contaminants from water and soil for analysis. As a non-polar solvent, it is used in chromatography. It plays important role in the preparation of glues for shoes, leather products, and roofing. It is also used for reactions that involve very strong bases such as the preparation of Grignard reagents. Also involved in the preparation of organolithiums compounds namely butyl lithium.
