Background
Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is primarily produced by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized in response to inflammatory stimuli as an inactive pro-form with a molecular weight of 31 kDa, which accumulates within the cytosol. IL-1β plays a vital role in innate host defense by triggering the production of other proinflammatory cytokines in target cells and initiating acute-phase responses to infection and injury.
