Description
4-Hydroxy-3-nitropyridine (3-Nitropyridin-4(1H)-one) is an organic solvent that has a number of industrial applications. It is used as a raw material for the production of other chemicals and as a cleaning agent in wastewater treatment plants. 3-Nitropyridin-4(1H)-one is also used in the synthesis of amines and nitro compounds. This compound is found in high concentrations in urban air due to its use as a solvent and its presence as a contaminant in carbon tetrachloride. The sublimed form of 3-nitropyridin-4(1H)-one has been shown to react with primary amines, amines, and tautomeric compounds, leading to the formation of nitro compounds or chloride ions. The nmr spectra show that this compound interacts with low energy radiation.
