Uses
Perfluoro(4-methylpent-2-ene) is a fluorinated pharmaceutical intermediate that can be polymerised to prepare hydrophobic nanocomposites. fluoropolymer films were deposited silicon (1 0 0) wafers, glass, epoxy, hierarchical dual-sized filler epoxy composite surfaces by plasma polymerisation perfluorohexane, perfluoro(2-methylpent-2-ene), perfluoro(4-methylpent-2 -ene). All fluorocarbons provide a similar level of hydrophobicity to the planar substrate, as evidenced by a water contact angle (WCA) of approximately 110°. The layered surfaces of hydrophobic nanocomposites via plasma polymerisation have a superhydrophobic surface with a WCA of 160° and a contact angle hysteresis of less than 8°
