Physical properties
Potassium Titanium Oxalate is a derivative of Oxalic Acid. Potassium Titanium Oxalate is freely soluble in water. Potassium Titanium Oxalate is a White crystalline powder. It should be stored in tightly closed containers in a Room Temperature.
Uses
Potassium titanium oxide oxalate dihydrate can be used as a precursor to synthesize titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles.
Application
Potassium Titanium Oxalate Dihydrate is used in preparation for passivating metal surfaces, containing polymers having acid groups and containing Ti or Zr compounds.
Industrial uses
Potassium Titanium Oxalate is used as a catalyst for the oxidation of aromatic compounds in the synthesis of carboxylic acids & acid anhydrides. It can also be used as mordant in dyeing cotton & leather. It can also be used as a pacifier in the ceramic industry.
Synthesis
The major raw material to all the Oxalates is Oxalic Acid. Oxalic Acid can be prepared by oxidation of Carbohydrates or Glucose in presence of Nitric Acid & using Vanadium Pentoxide as a Catalyst. It can be also prepared by heating sodium formate in the presence of an alkali catalyst to form Potassium Titanium Oxalate, which can be converted to free oxalic acid when treated with Sulphuric acid. However today Oxalic Acid is commercially prepared from Molasses route from cane molasses or sugarcane syrup.Potassium Titanium Oxalate is produced by heating Tetra Alkyl Titanate with Potassium Oxalate.
