Description
Benzamil (161804-21-2) is a more potent (Ki = 10 nM vs 182 nM1, IC50 = 9 μM2) version of the epithelial sodium channel blocker Amiloride. It is also an inhibitor of Na+/Ca2+ exchange transport (IC50 = 11 μM)2 and the Na+/H+ antiporter (IC50 = 80 nM)2.
Uses
Benzamil Hydrochloride is a specific blocker of sodium channels. It also inhibits epithelial sodium channel (ENaC). Benzamil Hydrochloride is an analog of Amiloride (A578700).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Selective and potent blocker of Na+/H+ and Na+/Ca2+ channels
