Definition
ChEBI: 3-(3-sulfooxyphenyl)propanoic acid is a monocarboxylic acid that is propionic acid carrying a 3-sulfooxyphenyl substituent at C-3. It has a role as a metabolite. It is an aryl sulfate and a monocarboxylic acid. It is functionally related to a propionic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a 3-(3-sulfooxyphenyl)propanoic acid anion and a 3-(3-sulfooxyphenyl)propanoate(2-).
Biological Activity
3-(3-Hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid (3-HPPA) sulfate is a metabolite of a variety of phenols, including ferulic acid , dihydroferulic acid, and dihydrocaffeic acid , and the glycosides echinacoside and acteoside.1,2 Urinary excretion of 3-HPPA sulfate is reduced in protein-deficient mice infected with C. parvum and increased in mice fed wheat bran or functionalized wheat bran.3
