Synthesis
4-Substituted phenylpyrimidine-2-carboxamide (0.025 mol) was mixed with 20% sulfuric acid solution (100 mL) and the reaction was heated at 100 °C for 5-10 h. The reaction process was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC). Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was poured into an ice/water mixture under vigorous stirring, followed by collection of the precipitate by filtration and drying to give 4-substituted phenylpyrimidine-2-carboxylic acid as a light yellow solid.
