pyrones: Compounds containing asix-membered ring system having anoxygen hetero atom and a carbonylgroup attached to the ring. There aretwo forms depending on whether thecarbonyl is in the 1 or 3 position. Thepyrone ring system occurs in manynaturally occurring compounds.
