α,α-Dimethylphenethyl formate is a colorless liquid, almost insoluble in water,
soluble in alcohol and oils. α,α-Dimethylphenethyl formate has a dry, herbaceous, green, floral aroma and spicy taste, quite warm and herbaceous.
Uses
Although very rarely offered commercially,
this chemical is used - mainly by a feu
producers - in perfume compositions of the
named types, also in Hyacinth, Ambre, etc. Traces of this chemical are used in various
types of Spice flavor compositions, where in
warm-herbaceous flavor can give quite unique
effects.
Preparation
Directly from D. M.B.C. and Formic
acid, usually with the aid of Acetic anhydride.
