Production Methods
Vinylfluthrin is synthesised through a multi-step process that begins with the preparation of the (2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl)methanol intermediate. This compound is esterified with (1R,3R)-3-[(1Z)-2-cyanoethenyl]-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid, forming the active ester linkage that defines vinylfluthrin’s insecticidal properties. The synthesis requires precise control of stereochemistry to ensure the formation of the (1R,3R)-enantiomer and the Z-isomer of the cyanoethenyl group.
Mechanism of action
Unreported as yet but pyrethroids work by modulating sodium channels in insect nerve cells, causing hyperexcitation, paralysis, and death
