Uses
Samarium Carbonate has specialized uses in glass, phosphors, lasers, and thermoelectric devices. Samarium is added to ceramics and glasses where it increases absorption of infrared light. It is also used as catalyst and chemical reagent. Samarium catalysts assist decomposition of plastics, dechlorination of pollutants. These magnets are found in small motors, headphones, and high-end magnetic pickups for guitars and related musical instruments.
Synthesis
In the precipitation tank, a solution of 2000 LSmCl3 with a concentration of 0.45 mol/L and ZnCl2 with a concentration of 0.0614 mol/L was added, and then 321 kg of solid NH4Cl was added, and after the solid NH4Cl was dissolved and the temperature of the feed solution reached 60??C, a mixed solution of ammonium bicarbonate with a concentration of 1.9 mol/L and NH4Cl with a concentration of 3 mol/L was added, and the precipitation master liquor pH value reached 6 when the precipitation mother liquor pH reached 6, Sm3+ in the solution was completely converted to samarium carbonate precipitation.
