Biological Activity
Angiopoietin-2 (ANGPT2) belongs to the family of angiogenic factors. ANGPT2 is a competitive antagonist of ANGPT1 and reduces vascular stabilization. ANGPT2 is a potent marker for liver cancer. ANGPT2 binds with tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin-like and endothelial growth factor (EGF)-like domains 2 (Tie-2) and causes neoangiogenesis in liver cirrhosis. Upregulation of ANGPT2 might have an adverse effect on kidney physiology and function. Overexpression of ANGPT2 leads to endothelial damage and dysfunction resulting in diabetic nephropathy in diabetic patients. ANGPT2 is a potent marker for detecting lung cancer progression. Upregulation of ANGPT2 promotes signal transduction for tumor progression in epithelial ovarian cancer.
