ChEBI: (24R)-24-hydroxycholesterol is a 24-hydroxycholesterol that has R configuration at position 24. It has a role as a nuclear receptor modulator and a mouse metabolite.
Biological Activity
24(S)-hydroxycholesterol is preferred over 24(R)-hydroxycholesterol by human 7α-hydroxylase. However, the porcine enzyme is active towards both isomers. 24-hydroxycholesterol (24-OH) favors sirtuin 1 expression and reduces the tau protein phosphorylation.
