2-Azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane

Uses

2-Azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane is a nitrogen containing heterocycle with significant potential in the field of drug discovery.

Synthesis

To a 25 ml bantam-ware round bottomed flask was added 0.27 grams (2.1 mmole) of 2-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-3-one (XII) and 0.08 grams (2.1 mmole) of LiAlH, in 10 ml of absolute ether. The solution was refluxed for 18 hours after which 1.0 ml of distilled water was added to the solution to precipitate the inorganic salts. The salts were filtered and the remaining solution was concentrated using a stream of helium yielding 0.1537 grams (semi-solid) (65.2%) of 2-Azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane.
