Definition
The desolventized solid residue resulting from extraction of most of the lipids from cottonseed. The meal contains 36-50% protein, 0.5-2% ether extract, 5-15% fiber and other components of the original seed.
Agricultural Uses
Cottonseed meal or cake is the pulverized cottonseed press cake that remains after the removal of oil. Depending on the extractivep rocess, varying percentage of protein remain in the meal and it is normally sold with 36 to 45% protein content. The 42% product contains approximately 42% crude protein, 6% crude fiber, 25% nitrogen free extract, 10% ether extract and 7% ash. Ash is high in potash and phosphate. The total digestible nutrient averages 79 % Some types contain gossypium, which is toxic.
