Regulation of synthesis release
LCN2 is an acute phase protein activated by lipopolysaccharides,
NF-κB, dexamethasone, and retinoic acid in
various cell types. In addition, the cytokines IL-6, IL-1β,
IL-10, IL-17, TNF-α, and TGF-α have been reported to
induce LCN2 expression. Furthermore, the expression
of LCN2 in adipocytes as adipokines, which play a role
in the energy metabolism, is highly responsive to metabolic
stress, proinflammatory cytokines, and nutrient
signals.
Description
LCN2 is an iron-trafficking cytokine involved in multiple
processes, including the regulation of innate immunity, apoptosis,
morphogenesis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, tumor
progression, invasion, metastasis, and energy metabolism.
