Uses

Used as a mild oxidant for diphenols, thiols, and thio compounds; aldol catalyst.

Synthesis

Oxobis(4-methoxyphenyl) tellurium(IV) is prepared by base-catalyzed hydrolysis (2N NaOH, 95 °C, 1 h) of dianisyltellurium dichloride, which is itself prepared by reaction of anisole with tellurium tetrachloride.
