Chemical Properties
Pale straw-colored oily liquid. Sp,Gr. 0.89. B.P. 271℃. Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.
Uses
Pseudomethylionone, is the derivative of Ionone (I731275), which is a aroma compound found in essential oils such as rose oil, and thus can be used in the perfumery industry.
Preparation
Pseudomethylionone is produced by condensation of Citral with Methyl ethyl ketone. The resulting product will normally consist of a mixture of approximately 65% Pseudo-normal-methyl ionone and 35% Pseudo-iso-methyl ionone, but this ratio can be controlled to a considerable degree through proper choice of conditions.
