A metabolite of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, it is dauer inducing and strongly male attracting. It has a role as a pheromone and a Caenorhabditis elegans metabolite. It is a carboxamide, a monocarboxylic acid and an (omega-1)-hydroxy fatty acid ascaroside. It is functionally related to a 4-aminobenzoic acid and an ascr#7. It is a conjugate acid of an ascr#8(1-).
