Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α–stimulated gene 6 protein (TSG-6) has been implicated in regulation of cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions during inflammation and tumorigenesis. TSG-6 possess anti-inflammatory properties. It is also known to reduce inflammatory reactions triggered by ischemia in the heart. Thus, it might have a potential role in treating heart disease with other cells such as skeletal myoblasts, fetal myoblasts and embryonic stem cells.
