Background
Ethylene oxychlorination is the key technology in vinyl chloride (VCM, the monomer of PVC, polyvinyl chloride) production to close the chlorine loop by consuming the HCl released from the former cracking step. Due to the high demand for PVC, leading ethylene oxychlorination being one of the most important processes in the industry.
Chemical Properties
Light green microspherical solid, slightly irritating, can absorb moisture and agglomerate when exposed to air.
Uses
The catalytic oxychlorination of ethylene is widely
used for the production of ethylene dichloride (EDC) which is an
essential step for the production of poly-vinyl chloride (PVC).
However, catalyst entrainment from the fluidization reactor has
formed a problem and caused the loss of expensive catalyst
powder with the outlet gas, hence less conversion in achieved.
Application
Ethylene oxychlorination catalyst is mainly used in the production of vinyl chloride (VCM) and pvc resin.
