3-Bromo-1-tosyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine (850 mg, 2.4 mmol) and pinacol ester of biphenylboronic acid (921 mg, 3.6 mmol) were added to [1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene]palladium(II) dichloride (197 mg, 0.24 mmol) and potassium acetate (713 mg, 7.26 mmol) in 20 mL of 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME). 0.24 mmol) and potassium acetate (713 mg, 7.26 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred and refluxed at 90 °C for 18 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was diluted with ethyl acetate, the organic phase was washed sequentially with water and saturated saline, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product was purified by fast column chromatography (eluent: 20% ethyl acetate/80% hexane) to afford 1-tosyl-7-azaindole-3-boronic acid pinacol ester (900 mg, 99% yield) as a white solid.
