The general procedure for the synthesis of (7-bromo-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-2-yl)methanol using the compound (CAS:17269-81-7) as starting material was as follows: o-allylphenol 2 (0.40 mmol) was placed in a round-bottomed flask, and tert-butyl alcohol (t-BuOH, 0.4 mL), 2,2,2-trifluoro-1-phenylacetophenone (7.0 mg. 0.08 mmol), buffered aqueous solution (0.4 mL containing 0.6 M K2CO3 and 4 × 10^-4 M EDTA disodium salt), acetonitrile (MeCN, 0.64 mL, 6.40 mmol) and 30% hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution (H2O2, 1.38 mL, 6.40 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the crude product was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) and the solvent was subsequently removed under reduced pressure. The resulting mixture was dissolved in dichloromethane (CH2Cl2, 1.00 mL) and 1,8-diazabicycloundec-7-ene (DBU, 54.0 mg, 0.40 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at 60 °C for 1 h. At the end of the reaction, the target product (7-bromo-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-2-yl)methanol 3 was obtained by purification via fast column chromatography (eluent: petroleum ether solution of 40-60% ethyl acetate).
