Synthesis
To a vigorously stirred solution of 2-bromo-2-methylpropanoyl bromide (11 mL) in light petroleum ether (250 mL) at 0 °C was added in portions of aqueous ammonia (50 mL). Stirring was continued for a further 30 min, and the resulting precipitate was collected and washed with water (2 x 50 mL) to give 2-Bromo-2-methylpropanamide as a white solid (14.1 g, 96 percent).
