Production Methods
Haloxyfop-sodium is produced through the same broad industrial choreography used for other aryloxyphenoxypropionate herbicides: first construct the haloxyfop acid, then convert it into its sodium salt in a controlled neutralisation step. Manufacturing begins with assembling the substituted phenoxyphenyl core through an ether forming reaction, typically a nucleophilic aromatic substitution or Williamson type etherification, followed by introduction of the propionate side chain via esterification or acylation using an activated propionic acid derivative. The resulting ester is then hydrolysed under alkaline conditions to yield technical grade haloxyfop acid. To obtain the sodium salt, the purified acid is treated with sodium hydroxide or another sodium source at a defined pH, producing haloxyfop-sodium
