Definition A constituent of body tissue. There are nine isomeric forms of inositol (myo-inositol or mesoinositol or specifically the cis-1,2,3,5-trans-4,6- hexahydroxycyclohexane has vitamin activity).
Appearance White crystals; odorless; sweet taste. Soluble in water; insoluble in absolute alcohol and ether. Stable to heat, strong acid, and alkali. Amounts are expressed in milligrams of inositol.
