Methyl trans-3-benzyloxycyclobutanecarboxylate (680 mg, 3.09 mmol) was used as starting material and dissolved in methanol to prepare a 0.05 M solution. The solution was passed through an H-Cube?flow hydrogenation system equipped with a 10% Pd/C catalyst cartridge, and the reaction conditions were set to 10 bar hydrogen pressure and 40 °C. The flow rate was set to 1 mL/min. Upon completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure to afford the target product methyl trans-3-hydroxycyclobutanecarboxylate (380 mg, 94.5% yield). The product was analyzed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) (unfolding agent: hexane/ethyl acetate, 1:1, v/v) with an Rf value of 0.38. Nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy (1H NMR, 400 MHz, CDCl3) data were as follows: δ 2.18-2.25 (m, 2H), 2.55-2.61 (m, 2H), 3.01-3.08 (m, 1H), 3.70 ( s, 3H), 4.53-4.61 (m, 1H).
