Uses
Diethyl(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyl)aluminum is a combined Lewis acid-base reagent for oxygen-containing functional groups; can isomerize epoxides and oxetanes; can function as a base; can enolize meso-cyclic acetals.
Synthesis
Diethyl(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyl)aluminum is prepared in situ from Diethylaluminum Chloride and Lithium 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidide in benzene at 0 °C.
Precautions
The dry solid and solutions are highly flammable and must be handled without oxygen and moisture. Use in a fume hood.
