DL-Goitrin is a sulfur-containing oxazolidine, a cyclic thiocarbamate, that reduces the production of thyroid hormones such as thyroxine.

ChEBI: (S)-goitrin is a 5-ethenyl-1,3-oxazolidine-2-thione that has S-configuration. It is a constituent of a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, Radix isatidis. It has a role as an antiviral agent, a plant metabolite and an antithyroid drug. It is an enantiomer of a (R)-goitrin.

Goitrin is a sulfur containing alkaloid isolated from Isatis indigotica (Ban Lan Gen) and Brassica vegetables (yellow turnipbroccoli) th at exhibits antiviralanticancerand antithyroid activities. Epigoitrin and goitrin appear to show virucidal effect on influenza virus A (H1N1) in vitro and in ovo.
