Benquinox is an obsolete fungicide which is no long approved for use in most of the developed world. It has a low aqueous solubility and is slightly mobile. There are large gaps in data in the public domain regarding its environmental fate. It is moderately toxic to mammals and highly toxic to fish.

p-benzoquinone 1-benzoylhydrazon-4-oxime is used in the synthesis of P-glycoprotein inhibitors. It is also a compound displaying antifungal and antibacterial activity.

ChEBI: Benquinox is a member of benzamides.

Benquinox is commercially produced via a process that commences with the preparation of 2,3-dichloro-6-methylquinoxaline through chlorination of 6-methylquinoxaline-2,3(1H,4H)-dione using phosphorus oxychloride in toluene. The key double nucleophilic aromatic substitution follows, sequentially displacing the chlorines with 2,6-diisopropoxyphenol under basic conditions to form the aryloxy linkages. Final purification via crystallisation from ethanol or distillation under reduced pressure yields benquinox.

Systemic. Mode of action is not completely clear but seems to interfere with fungal enzyme activity or cell membrane structure, preventing the fungi from developing and causing harm to plants.

Poison by ingestion. When heatedto decomposition it emits toxic NOx.
