Chemical Properties
It is soluble in ethanol and o-chlorophenol, slightly soluble in acetone and pyridine, and insoluble in chloroform and toluene. It turns purple in concentrated sulfuric acid and remains purple after dilution.
Uses
SOLWAY BLUE RN can be used to dye wool, silk, nylon and their blends, as well as for direct printing on wool, silk and nylon fabrics, producing a reddish-blue hue. It can be blended with Acid Green 50 (BS) in a certain proportion to obtain Acid Blue BGA. It is also used for coloring leather, paper, soap, wood products, and electroplated aluminum.
Preparation
1-Amino-4-bromoanthracene-9,10-dione?or 1-Amino-4-chloroanthracene-9,10-dione?and p-Methylaniline condensation, its product (C.I.Solvent Blue 13, C.I. 62080) products, and translated into sodium salt.
Properties and Applications
blue. Dark blue powder. Soluble in ethanol, o-chlorophenol, slightly soluble in acetone, Pyridine, insoluble in chloroform, toluene. Strong sulfuric acid in purple purple still diluted. Used for wool, silk, polyamide fiber and wool blended dyeing, can be in wool, silk and polyamide fiber fabric printing directly, also used in leather, paper, soap and wood color. But with C.I.Acid Green 50 make Acid Blue BGA.

Purification Methods
Purify the dye by salting out an aqueous solution three times with sodium acetate, followed by repeated extraction with EtOH [McGrew & Schneider J Am Chem Soc 72 2547 1950]. [Beilstein 14 H 706, 725.]
