Production Methods
Dithicrofos is produced through a phosphorodithioate esterification process. Commercial synthesis begins with the preparation of 6-chloro-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzothiopyran-4-yl alcohol, which is reacted with O,O-diethyl phosphorodithioic chloride under controlled conditions to form the phosphorodithioate linkage. The reaction requires strict temperature and moisture control to prevent hydrolysis and maintain product integrity. After the coupling step, the crude product is purified by solvent extraction and vacuum distillation, yielding technical-grade dithicrofos as a racemic mixture of its enantiomers.
