Obtained by partial methylation of 2,3,4- trihydroxy-benzophenone,
with methyl iodide in the presence of potassium hydroxide in methanol at 100° for several hours or in the presence of lithium carbonate in N,N-dimethylformamide at 30° for 15 h under nitrogen (30%);
with dimethyl sulfate in the presence of alkali.
