Chemical Properties
Dark blue-black powder. Insoluble in water, soluble in pyridine, tetralin, and xylene. In a mixture of sulfuric acid and boric acid, it appears bright bluish-green, then turns blue. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears brownish-red, then turns green, then yellowish-green, and forms a purple precipitate upon dilution. In an alkaline solution of hydrosulfite, it appears reddish-brown; in an acidic solution, it appears dark reddish-purple.
Preparation
1,5-Diamino-4,8-dihydroxyanthracene-9,10-dione and 4-Methoxybenzoyl chloride?condensation. NOTE: The product may contain a benzoyl group and a methoxy benzoyl.
Properties and Applications

In concentrated sulfuric acid for brown light red, and then into a green, green to yellow, purple precipitation after dilution in sulfuric acid and boric acid solution for brilliant blue green, to blue. Alkaline reduction leuco for red brown; Acid reduction leuco for dark red light purple. Used for dyeing cotton fabric is purple, to cotton affinity and levelness were good. Also applies to viscose, silk and wool dyeing.
