Preparation
4,5-dihydro-3,4,4-trimethyloxazolium iodide is prepared by alkylation of commercially available 4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazoline with Iodomethane (eq 1). Filtration and
purification affords the 2-oxazolinium salt in 80% yield.

General Description
4,5-dihydro-3,4,4-trimethyloxazolium iodide is a formylation and deuteroformylation reagent for aryl, benzyl, vinyl, and alkynyl Grignard reagents.[1-2]
storage
4,5-dihydro-3,4,4-trimethyloxazolium iodide is slightly hygroscopic; stored under an inert atmosphere; use in a fume hood.
