Description
Xylylcarb (MPMC) is
a colorless solid, which is sparingly soluble in water and
is fairly soluble in acetonitrile, cyclohexane, and xylene.
Chemical Properties
Methomyl is colorless solid, melting point 79~80℃(71.5~76℃ for industrial products), vapor pressure(25℃)121mPa.Solubility in water(20℃)580mg/L, solubility in other solvents(g/kg):Acetonitrile930,Cyclohexanone770,Xylene134.Hydrolyzed in alkaline medium.
Uses
Xylylcarb is a non-systemic insecticide. It is mainly used to control
hoppers and other sucking pests on rice, and leafhoppers, planthoppers
and scale insects on fruit.
Definition
ChEBI: Xylylcarb is a carbamate ester. It has a role as an EC 3.1.1.7 (acetylcholinesterase) inhibitor, a carbamate insecticide and an agrochemical. It is functionally related to a methylcarbamic acid and a 3,4-xylenol.
Production Methods
The commercial production of Xylylcarb typically begins with 3,4-dimethylphenol as the key starting material. This phenol undergoes a reaction with methyl isocyanate in the presence of a solvent such as toluene, forming the carbamate ester through nucleophilic substitution. Alternatively, some synthesis routes involve phosgene and methylamine to generate the methylcarbamate intermediate, which is then reacted with 3,4-dimethylphenol to yield Xylylcarb.
Mechanism of action
Non-systemic. Acetylcholinesterase (AchE) inhibitor.
Metabolic pathway
In plants and animals, the principal pathways of xylylcarb metabolism
are oxidation of the 4-methyl substituent, hydroxylation of the N-methyl
group, hydrolysis of the carbamate ester to form phenols and
conjugation.
Degradation
Xylylcarb is hydrolysed in alkaline conditions (PM).
