Production Methods
Chloreturon, like other substituted urea herbicides, was manufactured by first preparing a chloro substituted aniline intermediate, which was then reacted with methyl isocyanate or a substituted isocyanate equivalent to form the characteristic N,N disubstituted urea linkage. This condensation reaction typically occurred in an inert organic solvent under controlled temperature to prevent side reactions, followed by purification through crystallisation or solvent stripping to yield technical grade chloreturon.
