Uses
Dibenzo[a,i]pyrene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) with potent carcinogenic activity. Dibenzo[a,i]pyrene was shown to induce DNA adduction, tumorigenicity as well as Ki-ras oncogene mutations in strain A/J mouse lung. Dibenzo[a,i]pyrene has been shown to be present in cigarette smoke condensate and in automobile exhaust gas in small quantities.

Reactivity Profile
Vigorous reactions, sometimes amounting to explosions, can result from the contact between aromatic hydrocarbons, such as DIBENZO(A,I)PYRENE(189-55-9), and strong oxidizing agents. They can react exothermically with bases and with diazo compounds. Substitution at the benzene nucleus occurs by halogenation (acid catalyst), nitration, sulfonation, and the Friedel-Crafts reaction.
