GENERAL STEPS: A dichloromethane solution (15 mL) of substrate (2 mmol, 1 eq.), pre-catalyst (0.04 mmol, 0.02 eq.), and methyl diethoxysilane (3 mmol, 1.5 eq.) was added to the Schlenk tube under argon protection (1 atm). The reaction mixture was allowed to react under light conditions for 4 hours. After completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure and methanol (5 mL) and aqueous NaOH solution (2.5 M, 5 mL) were added to the residue and the resulting suspension was stirred overnight. Subsequently, the reaction mixture was neutralized with aqueous HCl (2 M, 30 mL) and brine (20 mL) and subjected to standard post-treatment to afford 4-ethoxymethylbenzoic acid as a yellow oil.
